Weaknesses

While his rookie season was fantastic he did have plenty of weaknesses that need to be improved upon heading into year two. There’s no need to panic though. The Grizzlies are starting their rebuild around him and he’s just 19 years old so no need to overreact if some of his struggles continue.

While his three-point shooting percentage is a strength of his it also is a weakness in some ways. He has been inconsistent with his shooting which is something many young players go through. In six October games, he made just 15% of his three-pointers, but in his six February games, he knocked down 52%.

Another area he really struggled in was his inability to stay out of foul trouble. It seemed to limit his progression at times even though he certainly made big strides during his rookie season. He averaged 3.8 fouls per game which were the most in the NBA this past season.

That was part of the reason he was limited to just 26.1 minutes per game. A big reason he struggled to stay out of foul trouble was that he isn’t very strong for his size. He has a thin frame and he will need to get stronger going forward if he wants to successfully battle with the top big men in today’s game.

He was also only able to get 4.7 rebounds per game which are unacceptable out of a big man. For him to improve in that area he has to get stronger and if he ever hopes to become a center in this league he will need to get bigger and show that he is able to battle inside with opposing bigs.
