Memphis Grizzlies: Jaren Jackson Jr. Shows Off Superstar Potential During His Rookie Season
By Chris Kern
Opportunities
Jaren Jackson Jr. was limited some due to JaMychal Green still playing a large role on the team, but when he was a featured part of the offense he was able to take full advantage of it. He had many games this season where he looked like a future superstar.
He had so many dominant games this season that featured multiple 27 point performances against Sacramento, Oklahoma City, and the Los Angeles Lakers. All three of those games were impressive, but it was his game against the Brooklyn Nets that is his marquee performance from his rookie season.
In that game, he absolutely put on a show especially late in the fourth quarter when he scored seven points in the final minute to help rally from the seven-point deficit. He finished that game with 36 points and 8 rebounds to help lead the Grizzlies to a double-overtime win on the road.
For a rookie, he was given many opportunities to shine on a competitive team which is something not many rookies get to do. The Grizzlies would fall off in the second half of the season, but when they were playing at a high-level Jackson was a big part of that.
He is going to have plenty of opportunities to shine going forward as there’s a good chance he is the number one option on this team next season and going forward for the next 10+ years. He’ll have to continue to grow and work for it, but he should be given the chance to be an All-NBA player in the future if he puts in the work.
