NBA Draft 2019: Top 5 Prospects Who Could Be The Point Guard Of The Future
By Chris Kern
The Memphis Grizzlies are looking to move on from Mike Conley this summer. Here are five guys in the 2019 NBA Draft who could replace him as the starting point guard.
The Memphis Grizzlies are trying to jumpstart their rebuild which very likely will include them trading away Mike Conley. If they’re going to do that they need to find a quality point guard to replace him and there are a few guys from the draft who could fill that void.
They do have two point guards on the roster in Delon Wright and Jevon Carter who they think highly of. They will have to decide if they think those two can handle the minutes as the point guards of this team and I think the likely answer is no.
Both of these players are good enough to play a role on a competitive team, but neither Carter or Wright have what it takes to be the starting point guard on this team for the long haul. If they are unable to get another point guard they likely trust those guys in the short term, but they don’t seem to be enough to lead this team into the next chapter of their franchise.
They should be able to get a quality point guard in this year’s NBA Draft if they so chose to do so. At the top of the draft, you have a couple of guys worthy of being top 10 picks, but after that, we may not see another point guard go until late in the first round or maybe even early second round.
A few of the notable omissions from the top five include Carsen Edwards of Purdue, Tremont Waters of LSU, and Jared Harper of Auburn. Some people may list some of the following as more of a combo guard or shooting guard, but they all have the skills to be point guards in this league. Here are five point guards to consider selecting in the 2019 NBA Draft.
