NBA Draft 2019: 3 Potential Lottery Picks With Bust Potential

The Memphis Grizzlies need to make a good selection with their first-round lottery pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Here are three potential targets to avoid who has bust potential.

The Memphis Grizzlies have selected their fair share of busts in recent years. They’ve had many first-round picks not work out in the NBA Draft such as Xavier Henry and Jordan Adams, but the obvious miss was the selection of Hasheem Thabeet with the 2nd overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft.

The Grizzlies lacked a wing scorer for the majority of their run over the past decade and they could’ve won championships if the 2009 Draft went differently. The very next pick was James Harden and other future stars such as Stephen Curry and Demar DeRozan were also still available.

While you can always dwell on the past mistakes and criticism is warranted, but this team just needs to focus on the future. They made an amazing pick last season when they selected Jaren Jackson Jr. with the 4th overall pick.

This is a critical offseason for the team as they start the next chapter of their franchise as Mike Conley is expected to be traded. Even if he doesn’t get traded they need to make this draft pick a good one so they can continue to build the young core for the future. That is if they keep their pick since it could be conveyed to Boston if they drop out of the top eight.

While the Grizzlies hope they aren’t picking eight in the Draft they have to be prepared for anything. No matter if they have their pick, or if it goes into the top four they need to have done their research so they get a player who can make an impact for the next decade or more.
