Keldon Johnson

Keldon Johnson is a good player, but he still has some areas of his game that he needs to work on if he wants to be successful at the next level. His lack of high caliber playmaking abilities could lead to some struggles early on.

He is a solid offensive player who can score the ball from all over the floor, but some inconsistency issues could be a major concern going forward.  While he does struggle to knock down shots at times he has shown the willingness and ability to make tough shots when needed.

During his season at Kentucky, he was productive in helping them reach the Elite Eight. In those 38 games, he averaged 13.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game on 46% shooting from the field including 38% from three-point range.

While he did have some struggles this past season such as when he went scoreless in 27 minutes against Georgia he did have some very impressive performances such as in their season opener against Duke. It was a blowout loss for Kentucky, but Johnson’s talent was on full display.

He shows his ability to drive the ball and finish at the rim as well as his ability to knock down shots. In this game, he finished with 23 points and 4 rebounds on 8-16 shooting including 1-3 from three-point range.

When you’re a young player without an elite skill to hang your hat on it can be tough at times to find a consistent role in the NBA. He has the tools to be successful if he continues to work on his game, but he does seem to be a few years away from being a good starter in this league.

That could drop him out of the lottery on draft night, but in a lot of mocks, he is slated to go late in the lottery. He has the capability to become a good pro so don’t count him out right away, but no matter what team gets him, they will need to remain patient.
