These five people with ties to the Memphis Grizzlies organization will give the greatest chance for luck in this month’s NBA Draft Lottery.

The NBA Draft Lottery is just eight days away, taking place on May 14th, 2019. This particular date will be the final leg of the journey to determining if the Memphis Grizzlies will own a first-round pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

If you are on the side of the Grizzlies making a selection, you will want them to fall in the top-eight spots on May 14th. If you are in favor of Memphis conveying their pick to the Boston Celtics this year rather than 2020, you will want to see them placed somewhere between nine through 14.

Everything could have been decided in the regular season, but that was not the case for the Memphis Grizzlies. Their 33-49 record wound up in a tie with the New Orleans Hornets. After the NBA conducted a tiebreaker via coin flip, Memphis prevailed, remaining in contention of retaining their NBA Draft selection. In true Grizz fashion, the answer of their pick possession is coming down to the wire. It has gone the full extent.

Losing this pick would not be the end of the world for the Memphis Grizzlies. It would mean that they would keep ahold of their 2020 first-round pick, and it is anticipated to be a much deeper NBA Draft than the one 2019 is providing.

Still, the Grizzlies are entering the first offseason of a reset. Now is the best time to gather all the young pieces that the franchise is hoping to have developed into valuable contributors in five or so years from now. Having a first-round pick would be nice for Memphis since they have holes that still need to be filled on their roster. Plus, they do not own a second-round pick this year, so potential for the Grizzlies to go pick-less certainly exists.

If the Memphis Grizzlies do in fact keep their first-rounder, they do not just want the eighth pick. They want one of the top spots, if not the top spot. Zion Williamson or Ja Morant landing in Beale Street Blue would be an absolute dream come true. It would lift this franchise to a level it has never seen. All of this falls on their fate, which will be learned on May 14th.

With stakes this high, Memphis will have to send a lucky charm to the NBA Draft Lottery in order to get their way. Beale Street Bears presents five important people within Memphis Grizzlies team history that should be considered to represent the franchise on May 14th.
