Mike Conley, the Memphis Grizzlies’ All-Time Best

If you are looking for any individual person to represent the Memphis Grizzlies, there is no better candidate than Mike Conley. Not only does he own the top mark in all-time points, assists, steals, and games played, but he has outlasted nearly all other players and front office personnel in his 12 seasons with the Grizzlies.

When anyone — even casual fans of opposing teams — thinks of of the Grizzlies, Mike Conley absolutely comes to mind. He is a guy that is heavily involved off the court and in the community, too. He has had big playoff moments this decade. Plus, he is a player that other NBA teams are heavily pursuing as Memphis has made him available in trade talks in 2019.

More from Grizzlies Draft

If the Memphis Grizzlies remain interested in moving Conley to a contending team later in the offseason, this would be a great way to show additional appreciation for “Captain Clutch.” They need to send him to the NBA Draft Lottery, and not just for his luck. It is all about the representation and the honor. He has deserved the opportunity, and now it is up to the Grizzlies to make it happen for No. 11.

Think about it. Memphis is moving in a different direction and placed Mike Conley in trade discussions to better his career outlook — to provide him a chance at an NBA All-Star bid and another playoff run. It is the same case for Marc Gasol, who was moved prior to the NBA Trade Deadline. By serving as a representative at the NBA Draft Lottery, Conley would have his fingerprints on the next turn in Grizz franchise history. Then perhaps by the end of June, Memphis will find a suitor for his contract.

This lottery scenario would be a feel-good story if Mike is moved ahead of his 13th NBA season. If he is not dealt, then it is about showing appreciation for all he has done for the Grizzlies and the city of Memphis. This is a no-brainer. Plus, if you are unsure about the luck behind Mike Conley, then go watch his postseason highlights for seven consecutive seasons. He has made the Memphis Grizzlies relevant this decade and the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery is another prime time for him to do so once more.
