NBA Draft 2019: The 5 Prospects Who Will Have The Most Successful Careers
By Chris Kern
Coby White
Coby White an exciting guard prospect who has risen up draft boards a lot over the past year. He was the 25th ranked player in the 2018 recruiting class according to 247sports, but he was thought of as a two-year player rather than a one and done.
Throughout this past season at North Carolina, he showed all his skills that make him such an exciting draft prospect. He can score the ball in so many ways which should translate well at the next level.
He does have some concerns about his wingspan and ability to defend at a high level, but as a 19-year-old guard, he has all the talent to excite NBA teams. His best position might be a shooting guard, but we’ve seen many players with his skill set play the point guard spot which is something he showed he could do at the next level.
During this past season at North Carolina, he averaged 16.1 points, 4.1 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game on 42% shooting including 35% from three-point range. He has some areas to improve in, but he had some bigtime moments during his collegiate career.
With his lack of elite athleticism, some question how good he can be, but he has all the tools to be a very good player in this league. Just as is the case with many of the top prospects in this class, some question if he truly has star potential.
If he were to come to Memphis it would be a good fit for both him and the team. The Grizzlies are trying to become a better offensive team and getting a guard who can fill it up and play both on and off the ball can be very valuable. He might not ever be an all-star, but he will be a very good starter in this league for a long time.
