NBA Draft 2019: 3 Prospects To Consider With Potential Additional First-Round Pick
By Chris Kern
The NBA Draft is an exciting time and with the Memphis Grizzlies locked in on Ja Morant at No. 2, it’s time to think better. Here are 3 prospects to consider if they were to acquire an additional first-round pick.
This is purely just speculation, but there is a chance that the Memphis Grizzlies will acquire an additional first-round pick if they do decide to trade Mike Conley. With a couple of teams being rumored with interest already, most recently the Miami Heat, we can expect the Grizzlies to pursue all options.
The Grizzlies are locked in on drafting Ja Morant with the 2nd overall pick and that gives them an opportunity to focus on other areas in the draft. They don’t have a second round pick, but they still have different ways that they can get back into the draft. If they were to acquire another first-round pick that would give them a chance to select another quality young player.
This isn’t thought of as an extremely deep class, but there certainly are good players for them to draft if they were to get an additional pick. There are a lot of good guards who will go later on in the first round and that’s a position the Grizzlies could use some help in.
They have Dillon Brooks and Jevon Carter who can be pieces at the guard spots, but they do need another starter they can pair in the backcourt with Morant. Brooks has a chance to be that starter and if he does get that then this other player could be a backup.
The guard spot isn’t the only area they need to address as they likely need a frontcourt player to go forward with since Jonas Valanciunas could be done in Memphis, but the backcourt is where they need to focus. If a quality frontcourt player would be available then they certainly could look tp air them with Jaren Jackson Jr., but a backcourt player seems more likely. Here are three players the Grizzlies could target if they made a trade for another first-round pick.
