Memphis Grizzlies Rumors: Multiple Teams Reportedly Interested In Trading For Mike Conley

The Miami Heat are the first team that we’ve heard with major interest in trading for Mike Conley this summer. They missed the playoffs a year ago and Pat Riley will do whatever it takes to get this team back into the postseason. He has never shied away from making big moves for top players so Miami being interested in Conley makes sense.

The Heat aren’t in a good spot salary cap wise as they have many role players being paid big money and not coming close to producing at that level. They do have some young talent such as Justice Winslow, Josh Richardson, and Bam Adebayo. It does seem that all of these players would be off the table during trade talks so the Grizzlies would likely have to settle for less.

Their starting point guard from a year ago is Goran Dragic who has a $19.2 million player option that he reportedly is considering opting out of. The Heat would likely want to trade him away in a deal for Conley, but it doesn’t seem as if the Grizzlies would want him back as the main piece in return.

The Heat have the 13th pick in the draft which would be included and they also have plenty of options to match salaries such as Ryan Anderson and Dion Waiters. The money wouldn’t be an issue to make it work despite both teams being in rough situations with bad contracts.

If Miami could add Mike Conley to their current core that would put them in a position to get back to the postseason next year. They were very close to making it this past season, but they just didn’t have enough firepower to get over the hump. The Dwyane Wade retirement tour is over and it’s time to start focusing on the future and adding another star would be a good way to do that.
