NBA Draft: Memphis Grizzlies Must Do the Obvious and Pick Ja Morant
The Memphis Grizzlies cannot afford to miss out on a potential superstar talent, so they must select Ja Morant at the NBA Draft.
Surely everyone in New Orleans is ecstatic because almost every basketball fan knows that Anthony Davis wants out of New Orleans, so now the Pelicans have a chance to pick another superstar forward in Zion Williamson to fill the void. This opens the door for Ja Morant to land with the Memphis Grizzlies at the NBA Draft.
The second ping pong ball selected belonged to the Grizzlies. Memphis’ Front Office went crazy and so did the fans! The Memphis Grizzlies will have the No. 2 pick in this month’s NBA Draft.
Immediately, there was the question of which player to choose with the second overall pick. It is almost certain that New Orleans will pick Zion Williamson from Duke, so he will be off the board by No. 2. Murray State’s Ja Morant and Duke’s R.J. Barrett are considered the next two quality players and either player is worthy for the No. 2 selection.

Let’s just assume New Orleans picks Zion Williamson. That means the Memphis Grizzlies will have two very good players to choose from. Ja Morant fits the needs of the Grizzlies simply because Mike Conley — Memphis’ point guard for the past 12 seasons — has already said that he wants to go to a team which will be a contender for the NBA Playoffs in 2020. He also expressed that he does not want to be a part of a rebuild, which is what the Grizzlies are doing at the present time.
Barrett plays forward and Morant is a point guard prospect. The Memphis Grizzlies are in need of a point guard, whether Mike Conley leaves or stays. Conley is 31 years old and past his prime, so we know his days with the NBA as a player are swiftly coming to a close. Ja Morant would be the perfect fit for a team in need of not only a point guard, but someone who already is considered a special player by NBA experts and professionals.
R.J. Barrett Not That Big of A Priority?
The Memphis Grizzlies already have a great player at the forward position in Jaren Jackson Jr. Jaren has already proven that he is someone whom the Grizzlies can build around. His spectacular play and his First Team All-Rookie selection is a testament to his potential. Bruno Caboclo and Ivan Rabb have proven that if given more time on the floor, they can be productive as well.
Every NBA team dreams of having an NBA All-Star-caliber point guard. After all, this position is the quarterback of the team. Many are calling Ja Morant a once-in-a-generation point guard. Only time will tell if he is a generational player, but right now the NBA Draft’s No. 2 pick and Morant are exactly what the Grizzlies need!
Not only does Memphis need him because he looks to be a superstar-level player, but the Grizzlies need his star power. He has already signed on with Nike, and with that signing comes recognition, not only for the player, but the focus will also be on any team that signs him.
Thus, the Memphis Grizzlies need to do the obvious and select Murray State’s Ja Morant when they make their selection next month on June 20th.
