NBA Draft 2019: Mock Draft 3.0
Not quite the shooter as Michael Redd and not quite as as skilled as Caris LeVert, but hybrid Romeo Langford — the freshman guard out of Indiana University — goes to the OKC Thunder at No. 21. OKC gets huge draft value with the selection of Romeo at 21.
Romeo is a former elite preps player, who was projected to go top-five coming out of high school. Romeo had a solid freshman campaign at Indiana, but struggled mightily as a shooter despite having a reputation for being mainly a shooter. This led to a drastic drop in his draft stock and some may have overrated his skill level, especially his shaky at best playmaking skills.
Part of the struggles were due to torn ligaments in his shooting hand. Another part of it has to do with his horrible and inconsistent shooting mechanics. Romeo averaged 17 points per game despite shooting roughly 30% from three-point land, so he has a knack for scoring in different ways. His ballhandling is decent, but certainly needs improvement.
Another problem of Langford’s is his lack of assertiveness and urgency even desperate at times. Romeo has to become more of a cerebral playmaker and/or more assertive. This Romeo pick gives Russell Westbrook and Paul George an athletic, lengthy, very talented option to run with on the wing who can also score buckets from all three levels. The key factor with Romeo in particular is his almost too laid back demeanor and his willingness to play off-ball.
