NBA Draft 2019: Mock Draft 3.0
The Detroit Pistons select Nickeil Alexander-Walker, a combo guard from Virginia Tech. He is a shooting, slashing wing compared to Jordan Clarkson and Jamal Crawford. He might not have an explosive first step, but he is a sniper from mid-range and deep.
The Pistons need a shooter who can actually get threes. Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond cannot do hero ball in the post all the time. That is one of Detroit’s main weaknesses going into their series with Milwaukee. They did not have any spacing with the wings they have. Alexander-Walker can provide that spark the Pistons need.
The only downside is his explosiveness off the dribble, something he has to improve on to make the Pistons team. He should be a good complementary piece to the team because they need snipers on the three-point line. If he can improve his explosiveness, we could see another great role player in Detroit. He is dominant defensively coming with close to two steals per game last season. He is a great guard for the Pistons to pick.
