NBA Draft 2019: Mock Draft 3.0
The Cleveland Cavaliers need a leader on the wing. That leader is De’Andre Hunter, a 6’7″ wing with solid defense and a shooting touch from three.
In his season with Virginia, he shot nearly 44% from deep. He also led Virginia to a national title this past season. He has the size and strength to go inside and finish. Plus, he can guard multiple positions on the floor. He could be a combo forward based on his size, but he is best at small forward. He draws comparisons to Tobias Harris and Kawhi Leonard based on his defense and shooting.
The Cavaliers needed a wing leader to help stretch the floor. This could give Kevin Love, Channing Frye, and Collin Sexton some space on the perimeter. Hunter’s shooting could also open driving lanes for J.R. Smith, Larry Nance Jr., and Tristan Thompson.
This could be a piece Cavaliers fans could look to as the next star in Cleveland. He was not a huge prospect at first, but his last stretch of games he had some spotlight moments over top prospects Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett. He averaged 18 points a game to go with five rebounds and two assists with Virginia. Hunter would be a great fit in the frontcourt of Love and Thompson.
