The Cleveland Cavaliers select Jontay Porter the often injured big man out of Missouri. Jontay is a top-seven talent in this draft, but has been riddled with injuries. After a promising freshman campaign, Porter surprisingly passed on being a lock for the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft to raise his stock to the top-five to ten range he felt deserving of by working on his body.
Long story short, he tore his ACL before his sophomore campaign and tore it again playing in a five-on-five game at the Nuggets facility with his older brother Michael Porter Jr. before being cleared, not to mention his entire family has unprecedented history with injuries.
Porter has Marc Gasol potential, which is unprecedented in a positive way that warrants a late-first-round gamble from a team rebuilding anyway. Jontay has one-man fastbreak pull up from three ability. His passing maybe his biggest strength as he facilitates a lot like Marc and Kevin Love despite such a large frame.
He is a good ballhandler for his size as he can put the ball on the floor consistently. If he can get healthy, this is a major steal. Cleveland can allow Jontay to fully heal and develop while Love plays up his trade value.
