Sam Young

When the eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies took down the first-seeded San Antonio Spurs in 2011, Sam Young was a key piece to the Grizzlies’ bench. He became a fan favorite for his defensive intensity in the second unit along with his scrappiness and willingness to hit the floor for loose balls and deflections.

In a gritty BIG3 league, Young is the perfect archetype for the job. Plus, he can nail corner threes if he is left open. He is just 34 years of age, which puts him at the younger end of the spectrum for BIG3 participants. This gives him an edge versus some of the “more experienced” ex-NBA guys he will be facing off against.

Sam Young is one of those guys that oozes grit and grind. Thus, it is no wonder he helped push the Grizzlies to some of the best days the franchise has seen to this day. Hopefully he gains further appreciation for his grittiness in BIG3 Season Three.
