While all eyes are on the superstars potentially on the move, these are some impactful under-the-radar free agents the Memphis Grizzlies should consider signing.
The biggest NBA Free Agency rumors will undoubtedly surround superstar names such as Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, and Kyrie Irving. These guys are maximum contract players in their prime days, so the hype and hubbub is warranted. As these guys should agree to sign their next contract at some point in the next seven days or so, what happens next? Well, this is where the Memphis Grizzlies could come into play.
Whle Memphis does not look to be a big spending team in Free Agency, this does not mean that they cannot land a few impactful players. Value can be had even within the veteran’s minimum pool. Plus, they have the Mid-Level Exception card in their hand, which should net them a dependable veteran talent.
While a handful of teams have open spots for one or even two maximum contracts, the Grizzlies have already formed the foundation to their impending rebuild project. This summer is about piecing together a competitive squad that will not break the bank for future years of Free Agency.
Plus, it is crucial to collect players that complement Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant early in their development so that the rebuilding phase does not take longer than expected. Three or four years from now, Memphis needs to prove to these future stars that contending for a championship is very possible.
Once 6:00 PM Eastern Time arrives, will the Grizzlies surprise everyone and seriously pursue a big name such as Tobias Harris — who Memphis has been linked to on more than one occasion over the past few months? Even this sounds too good to be true because of the team’s lack of cap space and Harris does not fit a current position of need.
In being realistic, Beale Street Bears now highlights three free agents that the Memphis Grizzlies could very well pursue right out of the gate or a couple weeks from now.
