3 Intriguing Lineup Options for the Memphis Grizzlies Amid NBA Free Agency
Lineup No. 2
I find this lineup to be the most exciting one, although I believe the Grizzlies cannot use it for long stretches. Here it is:
Ja Morant, Kyle Korver, Jae Crowder, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Brandon Clarke in the five-man group.
The idea here is to surround Memphis’ young floor general with as many efficient three-point shooters as possible to give him room to operate. As everyone knows by now, Morant has jaw-dropping athleticism, can drive to the basket, and finish off astonishingly. He also has elite court vision and can find open shooters with cross-court passes and punish the defense.
Korver is one of the best three-point specialists in the history of the league and a 16-year veteran who can still log 15-18 minutes per game. I quite like Crowder as a player, too, who was often used as a stretch-four in his Utah stint. Crowder is a multi-positional and above-average defender that the Grizzlies will likely use in various lineup combinations. He and Korver would be great partners for Morant in this suggested lineup at the two and three spots.
Jackson Jr. and Clarke form an exciting duo as both players complement each other and protect the rim. It is hard not to be high on Clarke who fits in the mold quite nicely.
I believe this lineup would maximize Morant’s potential and fits the modern NBA. The downside, however, is that Morant-Korver backcourt can bleed points, which limits this group’s floor time. That detracts nothing from the fun, though.
