The Memphis Grizzlies have decided to keep Andre Iguodala around, at least for the first part of 2019-2020. Beale Street Bears looks at some of the pros and cons of this latest offseason development.

The Memphis Grizzlies’ new front office pulled off one of the summer’s savviest coups in prying Andre Iguodala away from the suddenly-reeling Golden State Warriors.

Not only did they pocket a future pick from Golden State in the deal (a 2024 first-rounder, by which time the Warriors could be a far worse team), they acquired an asset who would be highly attractive to a suddenly-wide range of potential contenders.

News broke last week that Memphis – at least for the time being – is stalling on part two of their wheeling and dealing. Iguodala will not be bought out, and expected to report to training camp in a few weeks’ time.

This means that the Grizzlies’ front office likely prioritizes accumulating assets over saving money, and that the three-time NBA champ will call Beale Street home for a little while.

Iguodala’s presence will have a number of possible outcomes and effects, for a franchise and roster he’s currently a pretty awkward fit on. The following are just a few of them.
