Ja Morant

The new star in Memphis, Ja Morant is the next big piece in the Grizzlies’ rebuild. After trading long-time starter Mike Conley this summer, the team has handed the reins to Morant as they usher in a new era. Morant has brought a significant level of excitement to the team, not only from fans in Memphis, but nationwide as well.

Morant’s game brings elements to the team that have never been seen from a point guard in Memphis. He is often compared to Russell Westbrook, and it’s easy to see why. His explosiveness and court vision are elite. He led the nation in assists at Murray State last year, while also averaging 24.5 points per game. He’s the only player to average those numbers in NCAA history. An elite athlete, Morant gets to the rim with ease. He’s shown a strong drive-and-dish game in the preseason, averaging just under 8 assists per game.

While there are certainly concerns for Morant, he will have plenty of opportunities to prove himself this season. He is arguably the most important player for the Grizzlies this year, as the team hopes to establish a new dominant duo with Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. The starting spot is his, and fans shouldn’t expect him to lose it any time soon.
