Grizzlies Position Preview: Posts
3. Brandon Clarke
Widely considered the steal of the draft, Brandon Clarke has already shown flashes of greatness in Memphis. He led the team to the Summer League Championship, taking home MVP honors in the process. In preseason play, Clarke showcased his game further, averaging just under a double-double in only 20 minutes per game. He has a chance to emerge as a do-it-all player for the Grizzlies.
At 6’8″, 210 pounds, Clarke is smaller than most NBA forwards, but he makes up for it with his athleticism. Clarke’s offensive game resembles young Aaron Gordon‘s. He will be a lethal pick-and-roll option. His lobs will be highlight reel material. He fits perfectly with what the team wants to do. He’ll be a consistent transition option, and can play multiple positions. He’s shown some slight improvement as a shooter, which is key.
Clarke was arguably the best defender in college basketball last season. He has a great IQ, and comes up with a lot of deflections. His athleticism helps him cover every position on the floor, and he will do so fearlessly. Clarke has a great nose for the ball and is a great rebounder, despite his slight build. Clarke and Jackson have the potential to turn into an elite defensive pairing in the front court in the future.
