Grizzlies Position Preview: Wings
4. Solomon Hill
Possibly the biggest question mark in the wing rotation, Solomon Hill is a veteran looking to prove he still has a place in the league. He struggled during his time in New Orleans, and needs to show he has something to offer in a contract year. He hasn’t show a lot of consistency throughout his career, but that could be credited to constantly changing roles.
Hill’s versatility will help him see consistent minutes. He’ll serve as a combo forward, and hopefully a floor spacer. He’s a career 33% three-point shooter, but shot 43% in 3 preseason games. If that improvement holds, and he increases his attempts, he should see a few more minutes. Ultimately, he’s behind younger players the team will place more emphasis on playing. Hill can help those players by providing veteran leadership and advice.
Being the second oldest player on the team, Hill could turn into a trade option if he produces. He could be moved to a team that could provide him with a long-term deal after his contract ends, which is something the Grizzlies won’t do. Until then, Hill will look to make the most of his minutes to show that he still has something to offer.
