Grizzlies Top 5 Moments of the Decade
Drafting Ja Morant
This may seem premature to some, but drafting Ja Morant is absolutely a top moment of this decade for the Grizzlies. As the team began their rebuild, securing the number two pick in last year’s draft was huge. This allowed them to draft their point guard of the future, who looks to be the team’s next superstar. Morant has already shown incredible abilities on the court, and has the whole league buzzing about what’s to come in Memphis.
In just 17 games, Morant has displayed elite playmaking skills, extreme athleticism, and a swagger that fits Memphis perfectly. He doesn’t back down from anyone, and has gone right at some of the best defenders in the league. He’s made clutch plays, and has been directly involved in three game-altering moments: a game-saving block that set up an assist on a Jae Crowder game-winner, and this unreal game-winner against Charlotte.
Morant currently averages 18.6 points per game along with 6.4 assists. His adjustment to the NBA game has happened quickly, as he’s only had two games in which he scored less than 10 points. His playmaking has translated well, and he’s only had five games with less than five assists. Morant is currently the favorite to win Rookie of the Year. If he manages to win it, he will be the first Grizzly to do so since Pau Gasol in 2002.
