2. Tony Allen, Guard

Another defensive specialist who is the obvious pick for this position, Tony Allen is an oft-forgotten but never unappreciated part of the Grit ‘N Grind era.

Allen’s shooting combined with Conley’s passing was a deadly duo in the Western Conference, and was often a reason that the Grizzlies found themselves deep in the playoffs year-in and year-out.

Over his six year run with the team, Allen averaged 8.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game on 47.4% shooting from the field and an (admittedly poor) 26.9% shooting from 3.

While those numbers don’t jump off the page, Allen spent a lot of his Grizzlies career coming off the bench for Memphis, and he averaged just 25.1 minutes per game, making Allen the only player on this list not to average 30+ minutes over his run with the Grizzlies. Allen was a defensive killer, getting five All-Defensive team nominations over his run.

Morant is sneaking up behind Allen, but he’s hurt by having only played 28 games with the team over the last ten years. Unfortunately, there’s just too small of a sample size to really consider rookies. If he keeps on this trajectory though, he’ll be a shoe-in for the next decade’s All Decade team.
