Are the Memphis Grizzlies at risk for a losing streak?

The question of whether or not the Memphis Grizzlies will see a losing streak once the season resumes, on the surface, might seem like a ridiculous one. By the time that the season was suspended, Memphis had found their groove, and worked themselves into the playoffs after a while spent on the outside.

However, there is cause for concern. First off, Memphis dropped seven of their first 10 games, and started this season off on a 13-22 record, before a seven game winning streak and a 15-4 run helped put them back on the right track.

Another example of the Grizzlies struggling happened right after the All-Star break. Despite the only event featuring Grizzlies players being the Rising Stars Challenge (or, perhaps, because of it), Memphis went on a five-game skid in late February that was only briefly ended before the hiatus.

Now, granted, each of those runs do have a few obvious excuses. For the run at the beginning of the year, the team was still figuring out how they would play together, and they were still building chemistry. It’s a hurdle that a lot of teams, especially those as young as the Grizzlies, tend to face at the beginning of the season.

With the post-All Star break run, Memphis saw some key injuries to Jaren Jackson Jr., Brandon Clarke, and Grayson Allen which hurt the team’s depth. Jackson Jr.’s and Clarke’s injuries are expected to be cleared up.

Along with Jackson Jr. and Clarke’s injuries, there’s one more that’s expected to be cleared for the start of the season: Justise Winslow. While it will be nice to see the result of Memphis’ trading of Iguodala, Winslow’s addition to the rotation will throw a slight wrench into the Grizzlies plans, as they’ll now need to find out where he fits in the lineup.

Ultimately, Memphis will be able to figure out how to incorporate Winslow into their lineup, and his addition shouldn’t be too big of a hurdle for the team to jump. Clarke remaining out of the lineup will help with getting Winslow minutes, and when the playoffs roll around, he’ll be a big benefit.
