2019 Draft: Ja Morant

Now, this isn’t how the rest of the articles are going to work but…keep. Obviously keep. Keep a thousand times over.

The Grizzlies selected Morant with the second overall pick in the draft, and to say that it has worked out for them thus far would be a massive understatement. Morant has proven himself to be on another level than almost anybody taken after him in the draft, and is the runaway favorite for MVP.

Don’t get it wrong, there are other potentially great players in this draft–Eric Paschall, RJ Barrett, and Tyler Herro all come to mind–but for my money, nobody’s ceiling is as high as Morant’s. The only person who he can compare to in this draft is the Zion Williamson, but even then we haven’t seen the effect a full (or, well, mostly full) season will have on Zion and his body.

This one, honestly, was a pretty easy pick to make here, and it’s not only an important pick in the current for Memphis, but will go on to inform the rest of this list. Remember, if Memphis picks a different player then maybe they do better, and if they do better then maybe they don’t draft Morant.
