2018 Draft: Jaren Jackson Jr.

The Memphis Grizzlies used the fourth overall pick in the 2018 draft to select Jaren Jackson Jr. Triple J has been a great talent for the Grizzlies starting lineup, and a great partner for Morant when the two are on the court.

Jackson nearly falls into the Morant category of no-brainer keepers, if it wasn’t for who came immediately after him.

With the fifth overall pick, the Dallas Mavericks picked Trae Young (he was later traded to the Hawks for Luka Doncic). Young is a compelling pick, especially if it’s possible that the Grizzlies still land Morant next year.

Jackson and Young in their few years in the league have both put up fantastic numbers, and honestly, it’s incredibly close which one I’d want to take. Picking Young leaves the team with a major deficiency when it comes to big men, but Jackson Jr. has had numerous injury problems, and may not be as sure of a bet in the future. Regardless, it’s close.

And the fact that it’s close means that I’m gonna have to stick with Jackson Jr. Young is a great player, and he’s going to be a perennial All-Star, but I’m going with the safe bet of JJJ, because it means that the Grizzlies will get Morant next year.
