Memphis Grizzlies: Race for the eighth update
By Ethan Becker
No. 8: The Memphis Grizzlies, 0 Games Back
Previous Standing: 8
Current Record: 32-34
Most Recent Game: Loss vs. Trail Blazers
The Memphis Grizzlies are the final team on the list, meaning for now, they stay at the top of the pack. Still, their most recent game was troubling, to say the least.
Memphis struggled to hit shots, especially in the first half. While players like Grayson Allen and Dillon Brooks were taking ill-advised 3’s to try to catch up to their opponents, Memphis didn’t help themselves at all with their free throw shooting, and it was one of the main reasons they were down by eight at the half.
Still, they managed to come back and take a lead by the end of the third quarter. Unfortunately, That lead wouldn’t last, and they’d fall to the Blazers in overtime.
The loss of Tyus Jones, who finds himself on the sidelines right now due to knee soreness, hurt Memphis. If they Grizzlies had had another guard to substitute in throughout the game, they may have been able to keep the streaky Brooks and Allen on the bench, minimizing any damage to the team. But they weren’t able to do that, and it’s likely the team will be anxiously awaiting Jones’ return.
Memphis has the best chance of being the final playoff team in the West, but it’s not at all set in stone yet. If the Grizzlies want to keep playing after the eight seeding games, then they’ll need to put games like this behind them, and pick up a few important wins in the near future.
