No. 1: The Injury Problems

Yeah, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention this, no matter how sad it makes us.

Unfortunately for Memphis, they don’t seem able to avoid injuries during the Orlando bubble. First, Justise Winslow went down with a hip injury (later confirmed to be left hip displacement) and was announced that he would miss the remainder of the season rehabbing that injury.

Following that, it was announced that Tyus Jones was feeling some right knee soreness, and that he would be reevaluated sometime this week, though he is confirmed to be out of today’s matchup.

And then, last night, fans were struck with quite possibly the worst news in the last few months. Forward Jaren Jackson Jr. has torn his meniscus in his left knee, and will be forced to watch the rest of the season from the sidelines.

While all of these injuries impacted Memphis, and their fanbase, differently, the one to Jackson Jr. was particularly damaging. Triple J has had some amazing performances in the team’s first three games, and he was going to be an integral part to the offensive scheme moving forward. With him now resigned to the bench, not only does Memphis suffer with guard depth, but their big depth is also severely lacking with Brandon Clarke presumably moving up to the starting lineup.

All of these injuries are incredibly impactful when looking at Memphis’ playoff aspirations, but there is still hope. None of these injuries seem to be career altering, and it seems like all three players will be healthy for next season. So, while Memphis may stumble in the present, their future still looks bright as ever.
