6. Jason Williams (2001-05)

“White Chocolate” burst onto the NBA scene as a rookie with the Sacramento Kings, becoming an overnight sensation with his passing and ball-handling wizardry.

But as exciting as he was to watch in 1999, Jason Williams was just as erratic and turnover-prone.

In 2006, he was a less flashy and more efficient floor general who reached the peak of team success by winning a championship with the Miami Heat.

In between Sacramento and Miami, Williams had the most consistently productive stretch of his career with the Grizzlies.

The Kings traded Williams to the Grizzlies in 2001 as part of the deal for Mike Bibby, who helped lift Sacramento to the next level of being a serious title contender. Williams helped the Grizzlies reach the playoffs in 2004 and 2005, but they didn’t get past the first round.

Williams posted career-highs in scoring (14.8 points per game) and assists (8.3) while in Memphis. Having toned down his game a bit under old-school coach Hubie Brown, and with the Grizzlies not being as popular of a team, Williams made fewer appearances on the highlight reel. Hence this portion of his career slipping from the memories of some fans.
