The Memphis Grizzlies surprised so far in 2020. What does 2021 hold for this young team?
Just a couple of years ago, the Memphis Grizzlies finished second-to-last in the Western Conference and it looked like they were heading toward a complete rebuild. And while they were definitely headed toward a huge overhaul, nobody anticipated their bounce back to be this soon.
Fast forward to 2021 and Memphis has arguably the strongest young core in the league and the potential to have two perennial all-stars in Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. This team is trending in the right direction and could be a couple of years removed from a contending season.
But when you look at this year, Memphis looks like they might be stuck in the middle. That being said, we have seen unmatched resilience from this young team, with rookies stepping up in the absence of Morant and JJJ. These young men have taken a team that was expected to be in a huge hole and kept them at a level record and a 9th place position in the west.
And while there aren’t many negatives to speak of, the Memphis Grizzlies find themselves deep into a season with a questionable outlook on this year. The return of Morant has helped, but the team will not be fully intact until we see Jaren Jackson Jr. and Justise Winslow back on the court again. That being said, there are a number of different scenarios that we might see to finish this year.
