Ja Morant explodes for 30 more, this time in a loss
By Justin Lee
In the Memphis Grizzlies last game against the Wizards, Ja Morant had himself a night. Of course, games like this by him are not out of the norm, but they do not happen on a daily basis.
At just 19 points a game and seven assist a game, Ja Morant has improved from last season. Maybe the most noticeable improvement from Morant’s first year and his second would be his leadership.
In the last few games especially, you can see that improvement. It’s safe to say that without Jaren Jackson Jr., there needs to be a second voice in the locker room, and Morant has stepped up.
Even when the team is up 40 points on Houston, you can see Ja Morant making sure his team stays locked in. Early in his career, he embodies Grit and Grind.
Ja Morant had yet another 30 point performance, putting himself in elite Memphis Grizzlies company.
Even in Morant’s 35 points and ten assist performance against Washington, he made his teammates better, and that is something you always want to see out of a young player.
Ja Morant also had himself a good game against Milwaukee, where he also scored 35 points. That scoring performance made him the first Grizzlies player to score 30 in back-to-back games since Mike Conley in 2018.
Being in the same conversation as Mike Conley is a good company, especially in just your second season. However, the Grizzlies did one thing differently this game, they lost.
Ja Morant and his second 35-point game in a row
In this game against the Bucks, who actually have a fantastic defense despite being a tad worse this season, Morant still managed to finished with 35 points, five assists, and six rebounds.
Despite starting nearly 0/10, Morant was able to get things going later in the game and carried his team back from down 18. Usually, the Grizzlies get a ton more production from their bench and role players.
However, in this game, the bench would score only 27 points, making that one of their lowest on the season. Meanwhile, Morant and Dillon Brooks, no, not Marshawn Brooks, combined for 58 points on the night.
With all of these things happening and the Grizzlies not having their second-best player, they still managed to lose by only one point. This game can still be taken as a positive, even on a loss.
