Speaking of pleasant surprises, another bright spot this season has been in the direction of rookie guard Desmond Bane.

There shouldn’t be too much of an explanation needed as most of Memphis and the NBA world have at least heard of what Bane has accomplished this season.

It is safe to say that Bane has secured his spot as the primary scorer in the second unit and has even found himself starting in a few games this season. Bane currently is 7th on the team in points per game, 5th in field-goal percentage, 5th in free throw percentage and 2nd in three-point percentage.

As far as how Bane stacks up among the league’s top rookies, he holds his own, ranking 10th in points per game, 18th in field-goal percentage, 8th in three-point percentage, and 14th in free-throw percentage. Obviously, Bane would be ranked higher in these categories if you disregard some players that hardly attempt shots or haven’t played many games.

The only thing that holds Bane back from getting an “A” grade is that he just needs to continue working on being more impactful on the defensive side of the ball.

It is very impressive watching how well Bane is playing and competing every game and keeping his name among the top rookies and shooters around the NBA.
