Memphis Grizzlies: Grading every player at the NBA All-Star Break
Memphis Grizzlies SF Dillon Brooks has helped carry the offensive load, but is it helping or hurting the team?
Starting small forward Dillon Brooks is only one of two players on the team to attempt more than 15 shots per game, the other being Ja Morant.
The difference between those two players is a nearly 5 percent difference in field-goal percentage. That may not sound like a lot, but when you think of it as anywhere from 10-15 extra points per 100 possessions, then it may sound like a lot. In the long run, it’s a big difference.
Seeing Dillon take on this offensive role can be seen both in a good way and a not-so-good way.
Fans can be excited to see Brooks want to take on this role for the Grizzlies and are excited to see a player wanting to make a difference on the offensive side next to Ja, but when you look into it, is this a good thing?
Dillon is efficiently one of the worst scorers on the team. He ranks in the bottom half of the team in field-goal percentage, three-point percentage, and true shooting percentage.
Brooks has been a sound defender this season though, as he ranks towards the top on the team in steal percentage and defensive win shares. He is also currently 17th in steals per game in the NBA.
You can look at Brooks in one of two ways. He has some work to do when it comes to shot selection and knowing when to pass, but you have to love the willingness to lead.
