The Memphis Grizzlies have a short history, and as a result of this, they don’t yet have many long-tenured players that have worn a Grizzlies uniform. They have legends like Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol, but one guy was arguably the most influential to date.

That player is Mike Conley. He wasn’t the flashiest player and he didn’t light up the stat sheet, but he was as solid of a point guard as a franchise could ask for. He led the Grizzlies to seven consecutive playoff appearances, cementing this franchise as a competitor in this league.

The Memphis Grizzlies legend was selected to the NBA All-Star game

For the first time in his career, Conley was finally selected to the NBA All-Star game. He will be replacing an injured Devin Booker, but deserved the nod regardless. Sure, Ja Morant was a better player in almost every statistical category this year, but let’s not get into that right now.

Prior to Conley’s time in Memphis, the Grizzlies were just another young franchise trying to get their feet off the ground. They had 3 playoff appearances, each resulting in a first round exit. It wasn’t until Conley showed up that this team really started competing.

His career 15 PPG and 5.5 APG don’t even begin to tell the story of how well he did. His impact as a leader and floor general will be remembered by anybody who watched him guide this team deep into the playoffs, including a conference finals appearance.

In his last season with Memphis, he put up 21 PPG, over 6 APG and 1.3 steals per match. He was playing lights out and even though he wouldn’t continue with the Grizz after that year, he made sure his name wouldn’t be forgotten on Beale Street.

So far, he’d playing strong basketball as the point guard for the Utah Jazz, the best team in the league. His numbers have gone down on a crowded roster, but the success that he has helped bring to Salt Lake City should not go unnoticed.

He’ll look to make an impact in his first career All-Star appearance at the age of 33. Hopefully, we’ll see more of him in the future and we wish him the best on the Utah Jazz.
