Have the Memphis Grizzlies found a new ceiling?

It’s never a smart thing to start putting labels on a team, but without their clear second-best player, this one might be the honest truth.

If the Grizzlies have found a new identity as a team that throws punches above their weight class, but can’t ultimately get the job done, this wouldn’t even be a bad thing. In fact, without their second best player, how can you not get excited about this team?

Think about what they can be capable of on any given day with a 6’11” defensive superstar that has a 7’5″ wingspan back in the lineup. The only clear weakness for this team is lack of depth down low, and that will not be an issue for much longer.

That being said, the Memphis Grizzlies may be able to improve slightly past .500 without JJJ, but in all likelihood, these guys will be playing in the play-in tournament come playoff time.

Having said that, they should be a significantly better team than any other squads in the tournament. A play-in spot would be a close to a guaranteed playoff spot as these guys will get. Let’s hope JJJ returns sooner rather than later, and we can see this team rise up above a 7-seed.
