The Memphis Grizzlies are a team that is capable of doing some damage later in the season. With Jaren Jackson Jr. returning sometime in the next month, they’ll be a scary team in the Western Conference.

That being said, they may still be a step behind some other Western Conference teams.

Will the Grizzlies be able to compete with the Jazz, Suns, and Lakers?

The answer to that question right now is no. They’re close, but this team has a susceptibility to blowouts on any given day. We saw it on Monday in their second straight ugly loss, this time against the Phoenix Suns.

The Memphis Grizzlies have to make sacrifices to improve their roster

At some point, the Grizzlies have to start making sacrifices if they want to win a championship. Go back and see if you can find a team who doesn’t have at least at trio of superstars. In the modern NBA, it doesn’t exist.

So a lineup with Jaren Jackson Jr., Ja Morant, and everybody else isn’t going to work. I was crucified for simply suggesting that Brandon Clarke should be considered for a trade, but there isn’t really a way around it.

When Jackson Jr. returns, Clarke will be unable to find realistic playing time behind a wall of talent and his value will continue to diminish. But it doesn’t have to be BC that is subjected to a trade. There are plenty of young guys who could be dealt out in exchange for an NBA star.

But who is the star the the Grizzlies should sign?
