Did something go wrong in Memphis Grizzlies F Jaren Jackson Jr.’s surgery?

The current timetable for his return is still unknown, with the most recent update telling us that he’ll be evaluated again at the end of March or in early April. This is not to say that he’ll return then, but rather the fact that we’ll be given an update around that time.

There may not be a huge conspiracy in place here, but you have to begin to question whether something went wrong in Jaren Jackson Jr.’s surgery. The young forward has missed well over 7 months of basketball already.

Assuming he won’t be back until March, this would put his recovery at over 8 months. That’s quite a bit longer than the aforementioned 3-6 month window.

It could just be extra caution by the Memphis Grizzlies training staff, but it’s worth considering whether or not something could have happened to set back his recovery. We’ve seen things like this happen in the NBA in the past, so while it’s unlikely, there is a possibility that something went wrong with his surgery.

In all likelihood, we won’t get a definitive answer for a long time, but let’s hope JJJ is back on the court sooner rather than later. In an NBA Playoff race that just got a lot more interesting with LeBron James‘ high ankle sprain, the Grizzlies will need every bit of star power they can get.
