The Memphis Grizzlies’ roster remains intact through NBA Trade Deadline
The Memphis Grizzlies weren’t rumored to have any big trades on the docket before this year’s NBA Trade Deadline. It was rumored that they would try to move Gorgui Dieng, but with an unattractive contract, this was never going to be an easy player to move.
NBA Trade Deadline day has come and gone and no moves have been made for the Grizzlies.
There are rumors that the Grizz will still try to get Gorgui Dieng off of their roster. Despite the fact that he is a serviceable center, the front office may look to buy out his contract.
This may not be an ideal move though. There is always a possibility of injury to center Jonas Valanciunas, which would leave this Grizzlies roster extremely vulnerable down low without Dieng on the team. We’ll see how Memphis decide to move forward with a guy who is entirely out of the rotation.
The Memphis Grizzlies were involved in other rumors
The Grizzlies had other trade rumors surrounding the team, but nothing significant was expected to happen around Memphis.
There were rumors that the Grizzlies would make a move for Bradley Beal, but these were not substantiated in any way whatsoever. More accurately, this was wishful thinking for a large portion of the Grizzlies’ fanbase.
Beal remained on a struggling Washington Wizards team and will likely miss the playoffs, barring some sort of turnaround.
Why the Memphis Grizzlies kept their roster intact
In all likelihood, Zach Kleiman and the rest of the Grizzlies front office believes in the pieces that are in Memphis. At 21-20 mid-way through the season without JJJ, this team has shown to be able to exceed expectations.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
With a breakout year from rookie Desmond Bane and continued progression from De’Anthony Melton, the Grizzlies were likely content with who they had at the shooting guard position and their potential in the future.
Even though we didn’t seen any moves this year, the Grizzlies will likely make some changes in the offseason. That said, Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. will still be the future of this team.
Until they’re ready to make a championship push, we won’t be seeing any blockbuster trades from this team.
