NBA Trade Deadline day is behind us and the Memphis Grizzlies didn’t make any trades. Nobody expected the Grizzlies to make much noise in the trade market, but as a team on the verge of contending, anything could have happened.
But nothing did.
Most Grizzlies fans will see this as a good thing. The Grizz have punched above their weight class without Jaren Jackson Jr. in the game, so there’s no reason to create any madness on a roster that is clicking.
Had the past week gone differently, the front office on Beale Street may have felt more compelled to make a deal. But with a current three-game winning streak, the outlook for this team and their immediate playoff chances seems bright.
But one player that the Grizzlies were looking to move, regardless of the winning situation, was Gorgui Dieng. The 31-year old center has been rotting away at the end of the bench, lost on a Grizzlies team filled with young talent.
The Grizzlies didn’t trade him.
Whether they couldn’t find a suitor or simply didn’t try is unknown, but in all likelihood, they have to be considering a buyout now. Barring any injuries, we probably won’t see Dieng on the court very frequently in 2021.
So that begs the question: what will the Grizzlies do with Gorgui Dieng? Here are the potential scenarios for the Memphis Grizzlies and their 31-year old reserve center.
