The Memphis Grizzlies have to create turnovers to give themselves a chance

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: this Grizzlies team is good in a lot of facets of the game, but only elite in a few. One of those few is creating turnovers for the other team.

The Grizzlies lead the league in steals and it’s not even close. With 9.8 per game, they’re an entire steal above the next team down. It’s something that Taylor Jenkins stresses, as this will be the Grizzlies second consecutive year that sees them finish atop the NBA in takeaways.

The Jazz, on the other hand, are a team that is elite in many categories. But surprisingly, one area that they are not elite in is keeping possession of the ball. It’s not jaw-dropping bad, but Utah turns the ball over 14.3 times per game. That’s the 12th-most turnovers per game of any team in the league.

With a team that has played as well as the Jazz, it’s hard to find weak spots, but this is one of very few that they possess. If the Grizzlies want to have a chance of victory, they’ll have to be feisty on the defensive end.

You can guarantee that Jazz head coach Quin Snyder has made this a point of emphasis, so it will be interesting to see who gets the edge in this category.
