Memphis Grizzlies PG Ja Morant’s game mirrors past NBA MVPs

When you’re watching Ja Morant play basketball, who does he remind you of? The obvious answer is Russell Westbrook, but Westbrook isn’t the only former MVP who has a similar game to Morant.

In fact, Morant’s explosiveness can draw parallels to Derrick Rose, a player whose career was derailed by injuries. While Westbrook hasn’t won any NBA titles yet, Rose was on track to be competitive each and every year before his injuries.

Morant’s play is almost reminiscent of one of the best players in the history of the league in Allen Iverson. Iverson changed the game and Morant is capitalizing on that.

But none of these players ever managed to win a title, so why would Morant be the first? Here’s why.

Morant is part of a better system than any of these players. While he may play for the smallest market, there are significantly better pieces in play for him than any of his comparisons. If Jaren Jackson Jr. reaches his full potential, he and Morant could form as strong of a partnership as Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.

That said, this team is more likely to stay intact. Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. are just getting started. The Grizzlies are on track to make the playoffs without their co-star, so who knows what they’ll be capable of when he’s back in the lineup.
