Memphis Grizzlies: Grading Ja Morant’s 2020-21 season thus far
Ja Morant is having as good of a season as we could have asked of him
Overall, this season has been an odd one, but we’ve received every bit of effort that we could have asked of Ja Morant. In a year with abnormal circumstances, he has guided this team to a playoff position so far in 2021.
Despite hiccups offensively and defensively, he has been the Grizzlies’ leader and top player. His 3-point shooting may be worrisome, but we know he can shoot the ball better. If he hadn’t had a 33.5% year from beyond the arch already, this would be a deeper worry.
With a more spaced-out floor, we’ll see him bounce back from long-range. And when he bounces back from long-range, the Grizzlies could become a terrifying team.
Despite a healthy lack of consistency, his leadership has been there. We can’t fairly expect more out of a player as young as he is. By the time 2022 rolls around, Morant could turn into a full-fledged NBA star.
He could have done more but has had a strong season under difficult circumstances. Nobody will say that he hasn’t brought everything to the floor that Grizzlies fans have asked of him.
Right now, I’ll have to put a grade on his season, but it’s important to remember that this is completely fluid. Just because he isn’t having an A+ season right now doesn’t mean that he won’t next year. Or even by the end of this season.
Ja Morant overall grade: B+
