Memphis Grizzlies Draft Prospect: G Davion Mitchell

Baylor PG Davion Mitchell is more likely to be available by the time the Grizzlies’ first-round pick comes around. That said, the Grizzlies may not want to spend this pick on a player who would likely be sitting on the bench and watching Ja Morant go to work.

Regardless, he is the full package as a prospect. He can score, shoot the ball well, and play feisty defense.

As a shooter, he has knocked down 45% of his 3-point shots this season. Similar to Kispert, he didn’t begin his career as a strong shooter. Rather, his accuracy increased with each season that he played for the Baylor Bears.

The Grizzlies are desperately in need of 3-point shooting, so this would be a great pickup offensively. That said, he wouldn’t be a slouch on defense either.

Another area that Mitchell has improved upon in each season with Baylor is his ability to play disruptive defense. He has shown a little bit of inconsistency on defense, but overall, he’s a strong defender who can create turnovers for the other team. In the 2020-21 season, he is averaging 2 steals per game.

The Grizzlies are strong in every category except for 3-point shooting and certain areas of defense this year. Davion Mitchell would be a strong 3-and-D pickup for the Grizz.
