Memphis Grizzlies: How Jaren Jackson Jr.’s return will help Ja Morant
Memphis Grizzlies PG Ja Morant’s shooting will improve upon JJJ’s return
In his rookie year, Ja Morant was a very solid 3-point shooter. His numbers didn’t jump off of the page, but for a guy whose strengths relied on athleticism and passing, shooting was just the cherry on top of the Rookie of the Year.
But in year two, things didn’t go as planned. Morant has played well in every aspect of the game but when it comes to shooting, he has been extremely disappointing. He hasn’t just failed to improve his shot, he has allowed his 3-point percentage to drop by over 10%.
But this cannot and will not last long. Here’s why.
When Jaren Jackson Jr. returns, a lot of the Grizzlies’ 3-point struggles will be healed. Rather than force up long-range shots, this team will be able to capitalize on more natural opportunities. So far, not many of those have come up with Jonas Valanciunas as the only player that opposing teams have to worry about down low.
Along with this, Morant’s numbers should increase. It may not be drastic, but he won’t be shooting under 25% much longer. Hopefully, this is the first step in helping the 21-year old point guard improve as a shooter in general.
