Memphis Grizzlies SG Grayson Allen has been an offensive force

If you’re a Beale Street Bears reader, you’ll often see me use generalized statements. I’ll say that a player has been playing well based on the eye test despite not having the statistics to back it up.

This is not one of those moments.

Grayson Allen has been playing lights-out and it has been showing up on the stat sheet. Since the All-Star break here are some notable numbers from Allen:

  • 14 PPG
  • 1 SPG
  • 4 RPG

Those numbers may look modest, but Allen has been doing this as the 5th scoring option for the Memphis Grizzlies. Each number listed is an improvement from his season average, showing that he is growing as a player on this Grizzlies team.

To make an even deeper comparison, in the past four games, Allen has been averaging 17 points per game, while star point guard Ja Morant has only scored 12 points per contest in that period of time.

Most impressively though, Allen has been doing all of this on a team that has an extremely crowded room full of shooting guards. Desmond Bane has been one of the best rookies in his class, while De’Anthony Melton has been playing the best basketball of his career.

Are the Grizzlies onto something at the 2-guard spot?
