The Memphis Grizzlies could use a shooter, cue Matthew Hurt

Matthew Hurt recently announced his plans to pursue a career in the NBA Draft. After hiring an agent, there will be no turning back for the former Duke Basketball star.

But this may be the perfect opportunity for a Memphis Grizzlies team to improve their 3-point shooting. As things stand, the Grizzlies are a below-average 3-point shooting team. Actually, that’s an understatement. Memphis is one of the worst long-range shooting teams in the country with the 6th-least 3-pointers made per game.

Their percentage is slightly better at 10th-worst in the league, but this team will need to make some moves to increase this. So far, it hasn’t hurt this team, but it will come back to bite them at some point. Teams simply cannot succeed in the NBA without being, at the very least, an average 3-point shooting team.

Cue Matthew hurt.

Matthew Hurt is arguably the best shooter in the NBA Draft. He’s really a strong all-around offensive player, but his 3-point shooting is where he’s going to make his money. His 44.4% 3-point shooting is the second-best percentage in the draft to Baylor’s Davion Mitchell.

That said, Hurt shot at a higher volume than Mitchell and only trailed the Baylor Bear by .3%.

If the Grizzlies want to make it obvious that they’re committed to improving their shooting, Hurt is the guy. It’s just a matter of whether or not he’s available when it comes their time to pick.
