The Memphis Grizzlies came into Portland and took care of business for the second straight game. They beat the Trail Blazers in dominating fashion, holding onto a lead throughout nearly the entire game. Despite a late-game surge by Portland, the Grizz would hold on this time.
One of the Grizzlies’ key performers was Ja Morant, who would finish with a game-high 28 points, helping lead his team to victory.
In the Grizzlies’ first matchup against the Trail Blazers, Morant had arguably the best game of his career. On the surface, his numbers look really good, but not the best of his career. That said, a closer examination shows that he had an MVP-caliber game.
Here’s what his final stat line looked like in game one:
- 33 points
- 13 assists
- 5 rebounds
- 1 steal
But the number that really stood out was zero turnovers. Paired with 13 assists, that is as flawless of a game that an NBA playmaker can have.
Memphis Grizzlies PG Ja Morant would not let up in game two, putting on a show
In game two, Ja Morant played strong again, scoring the aforementioned 28 points and taking over at the end of the contest on both ends of the court.
Amongst his great play throughout the game, one play stood out. It can be seen below from the Memphis Grizzlies Twitter account.
After grabbing a rebound, tapping it against the backboard, and coming down with the ball, Morant got going in transition. He had already been eating the Trail Blazers alive on the fast break, so they were on edge.
Morant would approach the 3-point line and cut back to his left, dropping Nassir Little in the process. He wasn’t done there though. He’d continue the show, faking a pass to Grayson Allen on the perimeter, which sent Norman Powell in the wrong direction.
In the Grizzlies’ next matchup, don’t be surprised if Powell is playing defense with one hand, carrying a map in the other.
Ja Morant has continued to put on a show all season as a playmaker and his two games against the Trail Blazers have been no exception. Look for this to continue through the end of the season, as he has been playing his best basketball lately.
