Memphis Grizzlies key number: 27.1 assists per game

As previously mentioned, the Grizzlies are a decent way off from being at the top of the league in scoring. Specifically, they stand in 12th place in that category, which isn’t bad for a team as young as Memphis.

There is, however, one offensive category that the Grizzlies are near the top of the league in. That category is assists per game.

A casual NBA fan probably wouldn’t think of the Memphis Grizzlies when they think of the best passing teams in the league. In fact, I don’t think the Grizz would even be in most peoples’ top ten. Those spots would be reserved for teams like the Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns, and Brooklyn Nets.

But this is just another example of the Memphis Grizzlies proving everybody wrong.

The Grizzlies are third in the league in assists per game, cementing themselves as one of the most creative passing teams in the league. This can largely be attributed to Ja Morant, Tyus Jones, and any other point guard on this team. While there is rarely an eye-popping total from any one player, everybody on this team knows how to share the rock.

Specifically, Jones leads the league in assist-to-turnover ratio at 5.4 assists for every turnover. This is a hugely important number from the team’s backup point guard.

It is something that keeps this offense afloat, even during shooting slumps. Taylor Jenkins should receive a lot of credit for the job he has done moving the ball.

But there’s one more important stat that completes this team.
