Memphis Grizzlies HC Taylor Jenkins has some clear holes in his coaching style

As previously mentioned, I think Taylor Jenkins has done a strong job overall. He has developed players incredibly well in just a couple of seasons and has the team in a better position than anybody believed was possible.

That said, he has some glaring holes in his coaching style. Really bad ones.

This is an extremely young team — nobody expects them to be clutch by any standard. That said, this has been one of the least clutch teams in recent memory. Whatever the opposite of clutch is, this team is that.

The amount of blown leads that have happened has been infuriating to watch as a fan. But the worst part isn’t the losses, it’s the fact that they always feel completely avoidable. Late scoring runs by opposing teams seem to send Taylor Jenkins into a panic.

When this happens, he reverts to Ja Morant isolation offense, which has never worked in the clutch for this team. It works with a decent success rate during normal plays, but isolation offense is arguably the worst form of trying to score the ball in the game of basketball. Not to mention the fact that opposing teams know it’s coming.

If the offense has been clicking all night, why are you reverting to a 21-year old playing 1-on-5 at the end of the game?

Morant isn’t getting the same calls down low at the end of these games because teams know that he’s looking for a foul. Somehow, Jenkins isn’t catching on.

But what if he was getting these foul calls, you ask?
